Turtle bars

Here’s a delightful recipe for Turtle Bars, a sweet treat featuring layers of chocolate, caramel, and pecans.

Ingredients:

For the Crust:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  1. Make the Crust:
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the flour, oats, salt, and baking soda. Mix until well combined.
  • Press about two-thirds of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form an even crust.
  1. Bake the Crust:
  • Bake the crust in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  1. Add the Topping:
  • While the crust is cooling, melt the chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler until smooth.
  • Pour the melted chocolate over the baked crust, spreading it evenly.
  • Drizzle the caramel sauce over the chocolate layer and then sprinkle the chopped pecans on top.
  1. Finish with the Remaining Crust:
  • Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the top of the pecans, covering as much of the surface as possible.
  1. Bake Again:
  • Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  1. Cool and Slice:
  • Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. For cleaner cuts, refrigerate for a bit before slicing.
  1. Serve:
  • Enjoy your Turtle Bars with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage!

These Turtle Bars are perfect for parties, potlucks, or just a sweet treat at home. Enjoy!
